Changes in macOS 10.15

With macOS 10.15 Catalina, Apple replaced iTunes with several new apps: Music, TV, and Podcasts. Device management and syncing options formerly found within iTunes have been moved to Finder with this update and can be accessed using these instructions.

Note: this change only affects Mac users who choose to update to macOS version 10.15. iTunes remains available in its current state for users running Windows or macOS 10.14 Mojave or earlier.

At the time this article was published, Apple has provided developers with a release candidate version of macOS 10.15 that should be identical or nearly identical to the public release. The version of Apple’s File Sharing panel included in this version lacks certain features—like the ability to select multiple items—that many of our users rely on.

For this reason, we created our own replacement for iTunes’ File Sharing panel and made it available as part of our free Mac app called forScore Backup Utility. We strongly encourage users who update to macOS 10.15 to use it instead of Apple’s version as it provides all of the same functionality as iTunes used to, as well as the ability to preview some files, rename them without losing their annotations or metadata, and more.
