forScore + AirPods Pro

forScore 12 lets you take advantage of the motion sensing capabilities of AirPods Pro, allowing you to flip pages by turning your head to the left or right.

Requirements

AirPods Pro gestures are available beginning with forScore version 12.0.4. They require iOS or iPadOS 14.0 or later, AirPods Pro with firmware 3A283 or newer, and a device that supports motion processing (Apple does not explicitly state which models support this feature—please contact them for more specific information).

Setup

To enable AirPods Pro gestures, open forScore’s Tools menu and choose Settings, then Devices. Tap “AirPods Pro” to enable or disable this feature, adjust its sensitivity or invert its direction, and test it out with visual indicators (shown if at least one AirPod is connected and in your ear).

In order to provide this feature, forScore must access “Motion & Fitness” data which is protected by iOS and iPadOS. If you’re not automatically prompted to grant access to this data, or if you want to change your settings in the future, open the Settings app and choose “forScore” to find this and other privacy settings.

Gestures

To flip pages backward or forward, hold your head still for a moment and then turn to the left or right with a quick and steady lateral motion (similar in speed and movement to a swipe gesture performed with your finger). Since gestures aren’t relative to your screen, you can start them from any position: forScore establishes a resting baseline, then waits for horizontal movement in either direction to determine when you’re trying to turn pages.

Unlike forScore Pro’s Face Gestures, AirPods Pro gestures rely solely on real-time motion data sent from your AirPods to your device. They do not require the use of your device’s camera (so they work just as well in the dark), and no facial tracking takes place.

AirPods Pro gestures can be used when you’re using one or both AirPods, whether or not you’re listening to anything. If you need to hear everything around you clearly, AirPods Pro’s Transparency mode is perfect: it ensures your hearing is unimpeded so you can use them in almost any scenario.

Privacy

Motion data from your AirPods Pro is transmitted securely by system-level frameworks and provided to forScore only if you allow it. That data is processed live and never recorded, stored, or shared in any way whatsoever.
