forScore 15Coming Soon

Liquid Glass,
Desktop Class

The biggest redesign in over a decade brings forScore to life right below your fingertips. It’s more than just a visual update, it’s a significant upgrade that adds important functionality while charting a new course for the most fundamental parts of the browsing experience.

Design

Navigation bars and toolbars get a dramatic new look in OS 26, revealing more of your content and bringing buttons to life with a fresh design that responds to your touch to make elements feel delightfully interactive.

Contextual menus and popovers morph to reveal their contents using a beautiful new reactive interaction. Custom elements like forScore’s tab bar and page selector use Liquid Glass to give them an elevated look that feels right at home on OS 26.

Originally on macOS and now available on iPadOS as well, the menu bar gives you easy access to dozens of functions right from the top of the screen. The shortcuts that appear next to most items in the menu bar show you how to access their functions instantly when using a keyboard.

And finally, forScore supports iPadOS’ new windowing modes for flexible resizing and precise positioning.

Menus

forScore 15 introduces the biggest redesign of menus since version 1.0. More than just a new look, the whole experience has been streamlined and refined to put your content first. The control bar along the top is now a content bar, letting you switch between different lists within a menu. Editing actions and sort options are now presented from a popup menu, separating these essential functions once and for all.

This allows us to finally show an ‘all scores’ list in the main menu, alongside ‘now playing’ and previous options like composers, genres, tags, and labels. Since sorting options don’t compete with content types for space, bookmarks and setlists can now be sorted in various new ways.

While these menus really come alive with Apple’s new Liquid Glass design language, our restructured menus and their added functionality will be available on all supported OS versions so no one will miss out.

Grid Layout

But that’s not all that’s new with menus, we’re finally introducing something we’ve wanted to add for years—grid view. With this layout, you can see the top portion of the first page of each item in a list along with its title and other important details. It’s a fantastic way to browse through your music library and we think it’ll make a huge difference to musicians everywhere.

To keep things visually distinct, metadata values like rating, difficulty, key, tempo, and duration are now shown below the composer name and section headers make browsing visually easier whether you’re using grid or list view.

Metadata

For years forScore has let you set the tempo of each piece of music in your library using the metronome. Now, with forScore 15, tempo is now also editable in the metadata panel along with existing values like duration and key.

Tempo can be adjusted from either the metadata panel or from the metronome just as before—change it in one place and it’ll be updated in the other. It’s now shown in menus, and you can even sort lists by tempo to find the perfect piece.

MIDI

Control Change messages are now supported when configuring buttons or using commands with a specific piece of music in your library. Just like you can with other kinds of MIDI messages, you can use control changes to open a specific piece or you can send them automatically when opening a score or bookmark.

Secondary windows now send MIDI messages upon opening a score or bookmark if configured, so you can work freely with multiple windows without needing to manually configure your MIDI setup for each piece.

More

It doesn’t stop there, though: we’ve added multi-select and made it easier to work with backups and archives, the Services panel now uses forScore’s share sheet so you can upload files with all of the same advanced options like restricting use or specifying a page range, and the setlist menu now shows average rating and difficulty when applicable. These and other improvements make forScore 15 a huge upgrade for musicians everywhere.

Coming Soon.

We’re working hard to finish forScore 15 and make sure it’s ready for prime time. Until then, you can help us out and get an early look at these new features by becoming a beta tester. For the latest news and announcements, be sure to check out our news page or follow our RSS feed.
